Charming magical platforming adventure game
SomnaBuster is a premium adventure game for PC by developer PD_CGT and is a 2D side-scrolling platformer that follows the journey of a student going through the motions and how her life was turned upside-down after a chance encounter with a mysterious firefly with something magical about it.
Similar to CATO: Buttered Cat and The Plucky Squire, SomnaBuster serves up charming visuals with cartoon-like art and lighthearted gameplay that anyone can enjoy. The experience is complemented by a retro soundtrack and webtoon-like animations and cutscenes for added flair. Newcomers can give this demo version a try to get a preview.
Bewitched
SonmaBuster centers around an accounting student named Macy who is down on her luck and living a mundane life. One day, everything changes when she receives a visit from a mysterious firefly who is actually a witch-like spirit in her likeness. She switches places and is transported to the dream world of Esperanto. Thus, begins a wonderful adventure to experience its mysteries and find a way back home.
The gameplay in SonmaBuster presents you with a variety of different platforming challenges and obstacles, along with environmental hazards and hostile creatures. There are multiple worlds to explore with bosses at the end waiting for you. Utilize your arsenal of magic spells and abilities to defeat and overcome the trials ahead. Some of them let you propel at high speeds, bounce off surfaces and enemies, and many more ways to get around.
The story is presented in distinct webcomic-style cutscenes akin to reading a comic book. These along with a unique soundtrack only adds to its charm and sense of style. Now, despite its light-hearted presentation, the gameplay is actually quite fast-paced and complex, and provides a fair bit of challenge, which will be too difficult for some players not used to these types of games.
Magical change of pace
To sum up, if you're a fan of platforming games and are looking for something new to try out, SomnaBuster is a solid option worth considering. Its charming visuals combined with surprisingly challenging gameplay make for a fun and engaging time that pretty much anyone can enjoy. If you don't mind the difficulty curve, give this one a shot.
